Want to be a more powerful changemaker? Try being kinder to yourself

See if this feels familiar… You’re someone with a big heart who cares about the world, but this passion often leads to putting a lot of pressure on yourself to do more, to know more, to be more in order to make a difference…and as quickly as possible!

These expectations then end up fuelling some pretty nasty behaviour towards yourself… Crappy self-talk, anybody? How about pushing yourself to the brink of emotional or physical burnout?

If we want to be BETTER, we need to treat ourselves WORSE…right?

This was totally my thinking in the first half of my life. I was so driven to do big things, and I was conditioned by this society to think that being relentless with myself was what I needed to do to make good.

The thing was…in trying to make change in the world, I already felt like everybody was against me, and then there I was not even on my own side.

Eventually, a diagnosis of chronic anxiety and a generous dose of self-dislike showed me I had it all wrong…

Being a powerful changemaker doesn’t come from being hard on yourself, it actually comes from being kinder to yourself

In this week’s video, I’m going to explain why this is the case, the reason so many of us get this wrong, and I’ll give you some practical steps to start turning this around for yourself.

How I talk to and treat myself is something I’ve done a full 180 around in the last 15 years, and it’s transformed my life and my good work. I can’t wait to help YOU start making this shift!

You can also find the vid here on Facebook or Instagram if you want to share.

I love connecting with you via video, so I’m going to be trying to do more short video content in the next while. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to check them out, even if you just throw in the earbuds and listen to them podcast-style!

ANIMAL JUSTICE ACADEMY UPDATE

If you follow me on social media, you’ll have a sense of the epic journey I’ve had running the Animal Justice Academy.

We launched it at the end of January and it quickly became one of the most heartening activism initiatives I’ve ever spearheaded. 5000+ people are now part of the Academy and it’s been a life-changer for so many who care about animals.

This month, we’re going to start going through the 6-week curriculum from the beginning again but taking a MONTH to go through each week’s content. This is for those who just didn’t have the time to devote to the more intensive 6-week run-through we did January to March, but who’d like to chip away at the awesome learning at a more relaxed pace.

You can sign up for FREE at www.animaljusticeacademy.com to get access to the course curriculum, the wonderful private Facebook group (seriously…it’s such a warm, inspiring group!), and our live Zoom monthly panels and biweekly (or more) Thursday Lunchtime Live workshops and Q&As.
